Car Air Conditioning in Newport, Isle of Wight

Regas, leak checks and repairs when it isn’t blowing cold or smells musty.

If your air con isn’t blowing cold, or it smells musty when you switch it on, we can find out why and put it right.

Why air con stops cooling

Every system loses a little refrigerant each year through its seals and hoses. That’s normal. After a few years there isn’t enough left to cool properly.

A regas recovers the old refrigerant, checks the system holds a vacuum and refills it to the correct amount. If it’s losing gas faster than it should, we’ll look for the leak.

Signs it needs attention

  • Air not as cold as it used to be
  • A musty or damp smell from the vents
  • Clicking or a new noise when the air con is on
  • Windscreen slow to demist
  • Water in the passenger footwell

Not just for summer

Air con dries the air, so it’s the quickest way to clear a misted windscreen on a damp morning. Running it for a few minutes every week, even in winter, helps keep the seals in good condition.

Older and newer cars

Older cars use R134a refrigerant, and most cars built from around 2017 use R1234yf. We can regas both.

Common questions

How often does air con need regassing?

There’s no fixed rule. If it isn’t as cold as it was, it’s time to have it checked.

How much is a regas?

An R134a regas is £75 and an R1234yf regas is £149, both including VAT.
